The Founder
Hi Mama! I'm Tori Levine. Like most new moms, while I had the inherent knowledge to care for this being I created and the mama bear fierceness to protect him, I continually second guessed myself and struggled to become comfortable caring for my son in public (breastfeeding, calming him if he was upset, feeling like everyone was watching and thinking I was failing).
When I began attending local mommy groups I became connected to a network of new moms who were supportive and also shared that they didn’t think they knew what they were doing either! We were able to share things we tried that worked for our baby, and things that didn’t, so we could learn from each other. I knew every Monday at 1pm I would be able to take a little time for myself and connect with other moms. We would talk about what was going on in our lives including milestones and challenges.
As my son grew, I began to feel the physical demands associated with caring for a family. I found there was not much support and encouragement for new moms other than hard core coaches or bootcamp style fitness routines which I was not comfortable with. Even though I was on maternity leave and spent every waking minute with my son, I did not want to leave him with a sitter in order to head to the gym or to teach barre or pilates classes.
With a bachelor’s in psychology and master’s in criminal justice, I began my career as a case worker in a child and adolescent psychology unit supporting kids with autism, other behavioral diagnoses, and rehabilitation.
I loved my job and the difference I was making in the world, but while I was pregnant with my first born, we knew the hours and unpredictability wouldn’t work anymore. I turned my passion for movement, after dancing for 20 years, into a seemingly unrelated career move with pilates training and certification—including some in pre- and post-natal exercises.
As I began working with clients and teaching barre and pilates I took my son with me and wore him in a baby carrier. This turned into teaching babywearing barre classes to other new moms to help them get back into shape safely and effectively after pregnancy while still bonding with their baby. As I learned more and more about the postpartum body, my classes evolved and grew, and Mommy Barre® was born!
After my second son was born the postpartum anxiety set in but I hadn’t realized or been able to realize it until about 9 months postpartum. Through the process of working with a psychiatrist, I realized I really had anxiety for all of my life, but had different ways to deal with it pre-children (HINT: dance and movement played a big role).
Now it is my mission to ensure all moms (whether you had a without a complicated pregnancy/birth, whether you have been diagnosed with a perinatal mood disorder or not, whether you have faced symptoms of anxiety and depression throughout life or not, and moms who are just stressed and overwhelmed) have the opportunity to engage, socialize, vent, and mentally and physically heal with other new moms.
You have the inherent knowledge to care for your child, in the Momxiety Club™ Membership, this is uncovered so you continue to gain the confidence, support, and knowledge necessary to take care of yourself so you can care for your family.
I love working 1:1 and with groups of new moms, teaching individuals that little things can make a BIG difference (small, well executed, movements and little mindset shifts).
I live in Pennsylvania with my husband, two boys, and our two dogs. I have been featured in multiple national publications, been a recurring presenter at the Pinnacle Health New Moms Network, and presented at the 2016 International Babywearing Conference and multiple MommyCon Events.
